Things to know about the laser engraver

Basically the laser engraver has got three parts. These are the laser, the controller, and the surface. The laser works like a pen or pencil with the beam that is emitted from the laser engraver is used by you to mark various patterns and graphics on the drawing surface you are using for your work. You would normally use a computer to regulate the speed, movement and spread of the beam on the surface. The surface however should be matching and laser friendly.

The three major categories of laser engraving equipment are the X-Y table, cylindrical work pieces, and galvo mirror based equipments. In the first category that is most widely used, the surface remains stationary while the laser moves from X to Y creating vectors. At other times the laser remains stationary and the work piece is moved along allowing the beams to create the vectors.

In case of the cylindrical work pieces the laser traverses a helix or in other cases the laser produces the image you wish to have on raster basis. In galvo mirror fitted equipments both the work piece and laser remain stationary. The galvo mirror moves the beam over the work piece. The laser can either work in raster or in vector modes. In all cases however it is important to see that the part of the surface on which the beam will create drawings and the beam itself remain on the same focal point for the laser cutter or such equipments you are using.
