How to find out whether your child is ready for Kindergarten?

Some people believe that the child should know reading and writing and counting up to 1000 to begin kindergarten which is not true. Listening to stories, paying attention, recognizing numbers up to 10 are some factors that are considered to make the child ready to kindergarten.
The physical skills anticipated in a child entering a kindergarten are he/she walks and runs with control, can catch or throw a ball, cuts with scissors, reads own name, dresses self, completes simple puzzles, hops, marches and jumps, can climb stairs, pastes and ability to copy or print his/her first name.
Behavioral expectations of a kindergarten child are maintains self-control, expresses feelings, takes turns, works with others, cooperates with a every day routine, understands that unnecessary actions have consequences etc. Some of the pre-reading abilities that a kid require to start kindergarten are sharing stories about themselves and family, identifies letters of any alphabet, recognizing colors, telling stories from pictures etc.
Sending your child to a preschool would help the child to prepare themselves for the kindergarten experience. Language arts can be developed by engaging them in conversation and you have to encourage reading at all possible places. The child can read a board, words written on a packet or anything that he/she sees when you take him/her out. Talking to your child continuously and explaining new words would help him/her to improve the language and vocabulary. Remember that starting your child’s education at the right time and place will make your child successful and happy in the long run.
