New methods of breeding and growing cannabis seeds
Home & Garden April 14th, 2008Growers of cannabis seeds all around the globe often claim that improved technology and introduction of new breeding methods have enhanced the potency and productivity of cannabis to a great extent. Most of such improvements were experienced during the three decades of the last century from the 1960’s to 1980s.
The growers might be wrong on many counts. There are historical evidences to show that potent seedless marijuana was already available in the past and the techniques of producing real qualitative and high-potency marijuana was already in vogue in countries like India and Nepal centuries ago.
For example, there was Sinsemilla which in the Spanish language means without seed. It was dry and seedless female cannabis plants. Male plants were used to be eliminated before they started shedding pollen. Many advanced cultivation techniques for growing the weed seeds like the hydroponics, cloning and growing be artificial lighting methods are now used by growers. The basic objective is to control the growth of the plants as well as maintain a high degree of quality in the seeds produced.
An example of use of the technique on marijuana seeds is the “Skunk” cannabis that is one of the potent strains of cannabis. These are grown by means of selective breeding. It is developed by means of cross breeding of sativa and indica. The potency range is around 6 to 15 percent and the average THC level is around eighteen to twenty percent.
